Zhongyang Xia

Infrastructure & platform engineer. Toronto, Canada.

I build the boring parts that everything else stands on: Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability, the pipelines that move data around and the guardrails that keep it where it belongs. Currently the infrastructure team at Primer Labs, where I was the first infra hire and got to draw the whole thing from a blank page.

Before that: Zeet, Wish, Microsoft Research, and Google. I studied computer science at the University of Toronto.

I like Linux, distributed systems, and languages that take types seriously — Go pays the bills, Haskell is the hobby. I have a patent on video thumbnail acquisition, which is a much less interesting sentence than it sounds like.

mechanus is the plane of clockwork and perfect law. It seemed like the right domain for someone who spends his days making systems behave. I use it to host a couple of things I play with, and it was where I used to write blog posts — I may get back to that one day.
